From Gluten Intolerance to Inclusive Eating: Achinthya Neligama's Visionary Journey

The Woman Entrepreneur and the Enterprise

In December 2020, Achinthya Neligama co-founded Ingrow Holdings, a gluten-free flour and food manufacturing enterprise in Sri Lanka. The company began with a model factory, before expanding its product line to include over 14 varieties of natural flour sources and blends for cakes, muffins, and more. Drawing inspiration from her own gluten intolerance, Neligama aims to be inclusive to all eaters. “No one suffers in a buffet,” she said by way of analogy. By this same measure, Ingrow wants all Sri Lankans to enjoy healthy and nutritious food, no matter their needs or preferences.

Experience in the program

Despite her extensive professional background, Neligama found that running a business presented unique challenges, such as uncertainty about what strategies to pursue. “The mentoring part really gave me sort of direction where the business should move," said Neligama, who also praised the program’s networking and knowledge sessions.

Achievements and impact of program

Neligama highlighted the WeScale program's significant role in her business's development. "With the mentoring program, I managed to actually get my business expansion [to] the next level," she said. In particular, Neligama singled out the mentorship in areas like finance and legal, where she - and most of her peers - had little experience. “Unlike [other common] programs, mentoring is directly on you and they listen to you," she said. Because of this high degree of personalization, Neligama would endorse the WeScale program to other women entrepreneurs. “It's a holistic program,” she said, adding, “I have already recommended it."

  • Launched in December 2020, Ingrow Holdings introduced five products by April of the following year. They now offer 15 products, tripling their initial product line.

  • In the next 3 to 5 years, Ingrow aims to offer even more diverse and flavorful foods, especially for those with unique dietary needs.
